3. Fear of the needle 

That’s the biggest culprit. We hear this from our most anxious patients time and again.

So, to put that fear to rest, we’ll give you a topical treatment to ensure that your gums are well frozen before we administer the needle. This will avoid any pain during treatment and you won’t feel the injection. If at any time during your procedure you would like us to stop, just raise your hand or give us a signal and we won’t begin again until you are ready.

• Conscious Sedation

 Is a method of relieving dental anxiety through the use of sedative drugs. You will still be awake, but you’ll be less aware of the procedure. We recommend conscious sedation for patients who are scared of dental treatment 

Needless to say, during any procedure where we administer a sedative, we’ll monitor your vital signs including your blood pressure and breathing rate throughout the entire procedure.

Our sedation specialists ensure that you’re in good hands at all times and will determine the sedation option that’s right for you. Options vary depending on the type of treatment being done.

• What are the procedures for conscious sedation?

The steps for conscious sedation may differ based on the procedure you’re having done.

1. 1. You’ll sit on the dental chair 
   2. You’ll receive a sedative through a facial mask that lets you inhale the sedative.
   3. You’ll wait until the sedative takes effect. You may wait up to 15-20 minutes before you begin to feel the effects. 
   4. We will monitor your breathing and your blood pressure.
   5. We will start the procedure once the sedative takes effect.

• What does conscious sedation feel like?

Sedation effects differ from person to person. The most common feelings are drowsiness and relaxation. Once the sedative takes effect, negative emotions, stress, or anxiety gradually disappear. You may feel heaviness or sluggishness that makes it feel harder to lift or move your limbs. You may find that the world around you slows down. Your reflexes are delayed, and you may respond or react more slowly to physical stimuli or the conversation. You may even start smiling or laughing without an obvious cause. They call nitrous oxide laughing gas for a reason!

• Are there any side effects?

No side effects might be little lightheadedness, feelings of heaviness or sluggishness, and usually loss of memory of what happened during the procedure (amnesia) which is not a side effect.

• What’s recovery like?

Recovery from conscious sedation is pretty quick within 5 minutes

• • You may need to stay in the dental chair for up to 20 -25 minutes.
    We monitor your vitals and administer 100% oxygen for 5-10 minutes to wash out nitrous oxide completely through the bloodstream.

    You can even drive back home comfortably after the procedure.
